I had never read Lisa Kleypas before. And yet, I have a lot of his books in my PAL (as I am weak, I let myself be influenced by those which are packed and presto!). The beautiful days being here (no but what horrible heat since yesterday), I told myself that it was time to immerse myself in a romance and I therefore chose the first volume of the “Friday Harbor” series which made me feel good. the eye for quite a while.

There are betrayals harder than others …

It was good to live in San Juan Island, until the day when Lucy learns that her companion Kevin is leaving her to move in with Alice, her own sister! Alice, the eternal spoiled child who, by breaking her heart, also destroys their family. Lucy thinks she’s done with love when she meets Sam Nolan, the owner of the False Bay vineyard. Passionate, charming, but allergic to any commitment. Because he too has his own injuries. And her own secrets …

I was a little reluctant at the start of Lisa Kleypas – Cold-Hearted Rake Audiobook because I read for her editions and their Promises collection scared me a little. I was afraid I might come across a marshmallow story and that sooner or later I would drop out because of too much “stupidity”. But that was not the case and I even really enjoyed my reading!

Lisa Kleypas has a very pleasant pen to read, it is very fluid. She has the quality of knowing how to describe landscapes or situations without any heaviness and with interest for her reader (well rather her reader because I doubt that many gentlemen read her). We turn the pages without really realizing it. I was amazed to finish my reading so quickly and I was almost disappointed …

I got very attached to Lucy, our heroine, I found her so authentic and fresh. I was really sorry for all the mishaps that fell on her head and I very much hoped that she would do the best. As we are in romance, this is of course the case. the book follows the classic pattern of the genre: I don’t love you, I love you, something naughty is going on, I love you again. But it’s so well written and so well done that we don’t care and we happily swallow Lucy and Sam’s story.

So yes, Sam is the caricature of the ideal guy. He is almost perfect (and pfiout … what is he cute), he has a host of qualities but he refuses to embark on a stable and serious relationship (and that is not good .. . or not, read the book and you will see). On the other hand, Lucy is far from being the a bit silly heroine that one often meets in this literary genre. She has an original job, she has character and she has a little something extra that I adored. Because the author didn’t hesitate to introduce a little bit of magic into her story. It gives a poetic side to certain passages that made me crack like a midinette. Great find!

Still we have chooood scenes (but not that much, we are not in new adult) which are well written, with romanticism … maybe even a little too romantic because I laughed a few times . But I still don’t like these passages which I find boring however they are written …

I think I read the rest pretty quickly because I don’t want to leave Lisa Kleypas – Cold-Hearted Rake Audiobook so quickly which I loved. the calm and relaxing atmosphere. There are three other volumes which will join my second hand PAL as soon as possible. I am especially curious of volume 0 which offers us to better discover Holly, the orphan niece of Sam, who is a kid who knew how to touch me straight to the heart. It seems that the action takes place around the Christmas holidays but I don’t think I can wait very long (and then Christmas in summer, it refreshes not?).

A very pretty discovery, a real happiness reading that helps to see life in pink …
