Stephen King Joyland Audiobook
Noticed in bookstores this morning, Stephen King’s novel “Joyland” has received a new cover from Le Livre de Poche.
This new version has just been released (printed in June 2020) and brings a new take on the book.
Stephen King‘s book “Joyland” is a little-known and underrated novel. It is also misrepresented by its back cover which suggests that this is a horror novel, whereas it is above all a very beautiful novel, a nostalgic book. Like the story “The Body”, which inspired the movie “Stand By Me”.
Two years ago we learned that a TV series inspired by “Joyland” was in the works. But this project does not seem to have progressed since we have not heard from it since.

“Joyland” went straight out of pocket in the US, by Hard Case Crime, the publisher who previously published “Colorado Kid”, also in pocket format. Because Stephen King had received from Charles Ardai, the publisher of Hard Case Crime who contacted him to try to get him to praise his collection of pulp books, and for whom Stephen King, a big fan, on the contrary, had wished to write him a book!
After a romantic breakup, Devin Jones, 21, arrives in the summer of 1973 at Joyland, a small amusement park on the North Carolina coast. He is hired along with other students to complete the team of fairgrounds, both strange and happy. His meeting with a clairvoyant little boy with a serious illness, and especially his mother, will change Devin’s life. Obsessed by the mystery of the ghost train supposedly haunted by the specter of a slaughtered woman 4 years earlier, the young man sets out on an investigation. Is another murder possible? Will he be able to avoid it? One thing is certain, the adventure will change him forever.
Stephen King immerses us with sweet nostalgia, in the atmosphere of retro America.
American back cover:
Student Devin Jones takes a summer job at Joyland, hoping to forget the girl who broke his heart. But he will heal by encountering something far more terrible: the legacy of a vicious killer and the fate of a dying child, as well as the dark truth of life – and what comes after -, and that will change him to never.
A gripping story about love and loss, about growing up and growing up, and about those who can’t do either because death takes them too soon. “Joyland is a Stephen King at the height of his storytelling skills. With all the emotions of masterpieces such as “La Ligne Verte” or “Les évadés” (nb: film adapting one of his short stories), “Joyland” is both a story of mystery, a story of horror, and a melancholy novel, a novel which will move everyone, even the most seasoned reader.
